Want to explore the world of social dance? This fall, we begin with Cha Cha, a fun and up-tempo Latin dance with Cuban roots danced to a syncopated beat. Not only can you Cha Cha to traditional Latin music – you can also dance to contemporary tunes at clubs and social events. Cha Cha is a “spot” dance which doesn’t travel around the floor, so it can easily be danced in a small space. We will cover Latin hip motion, frame, and partnering technique.
Our second dance course this fall is Country Two Step, also known as the Texas Two Step. A progressive dance that travels around the floor, Country Two Step provides lots of turning practice and fun patterns. We’ll dance to contemporary Country songs.
No previous experience is required and you don’t need to bring a partner (leaders and followers will switch partners during class). You will leave class with a list of local dance venues where you can practice your new skills and learn more moves.
These classes are being taught by Emily Fox who has taught social dance in the Pioneer Valley for over 12 years. She’s worked with students of all ages at venues including Dance Northampton, the Hartsbrook School, Paradise Dance, and her studio in Florence, MA. She’s known for teaching with humor and patience and specializes in working with beginning students. Bring someone with you – the second person is half price!
