Northampton Athletic Club and Smith Vocational Adult Community Education have partnered to offer a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer course.
National Certification Information:
In this program, you will be introduced to theoretical foundations in the body systems as you gain hands-on skill competency. You will learn about biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage and health assessments. You will also explore the common ailments and physical conditions that affect older adults and how to design age-appropriate exercise programs. Training includes lecture and practical training, as well as an optional internship, and is provided through a partnership with World Instructor Training Schools.

With this training, you will be qualified for positions that include personal trainer and fitness coach, both independently or as part of a larger organization.
Course Contact Hours: 15 hours of lecture and 15 hours of training labs
Clinical Externship Hours: 30 hours
Times: Saturdays, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, October 20 – December 1 (no classes November 10 and November 24)
Locations: Lecture classes at Smith Vocational from 9 am to noon, Practical classes at Northampton Athletic Club from 12:30 to 3:30 pm
